Why this nomination? Tweeting without thinking. The NRSC really chose the wrong use of words, both implying she's a coward (which she's not) and not considering her physical circumstances.

Description: The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) is facing heat after slamming Rep. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) for “not standing up for veterans.”

Duckworth lost both of her legs while serving as a U.S. Army helicopter pilot during the Iraq War.

An NRSC aide acknowledged the mistake and said the tweet was deleted in minutes.

“It would be great if reporters would pay as much attention to a deleted tweet as they should to Tammy Duckworth being sued by VA whistleblowers for ignoring claims of mistreatment and corruption,” said NRSC spokeswoman Andrea Bozek in a statement to The Hill.

Duckworth is the Democratic favorite to take on Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) in what should be one of 2016's tightest races. Kirk is one of the Democrats' top targets.

A Duckworth campaign aide directed his fire at Kirk’s campaign for the NRSC tweet.
